LASER SURGERY

PH03039I.jpg (25084 bytes) The Thunder Bay Veterinary Hospital is pleased to offer your pet a great advance in the area of surgical care.   We are the first veterinary practice in Northwestern Ontario to have laser surgery available.  Laser surgery uses an invisible beam of light to remove layers of tissue with great precision.

It provides your pet with the best care available and offers many advantages compared to conventional surgical methods.

Some of the advantages are as follows:

1.  The LASER reduces blood loss during your pet's surgery because the LASER seals the small blood vessels as it makes an incision.

2.  The LASER reduces swelling after your pet's surgery  because the LASER seals the lymphatic vessels.

3.  The LASER reduces post-operative pain for your pet because the LASER seals the nerve endings as it moves through the tissue.  This, we feel, is the MOST IMPORTANT advantages that the laser has over surgery performed with a scalpel.   Your pet will be more comfortable after surgery when the LASER is used.

For these reasons, laser surgery is mandatory for declaw surgery.  Pets having laser surgery have a reduced risk of infection.  They also experience a faster return to normal activities.  The cost for using the laser is minimal when one considers all of the above benefits.  It does vary depending on the length and on the difficulty of the procedure.
