Soft Paws were developed by a veterinarian and may be the solution for cat owners seeking a non-surgical alternative to declawing.

They keep your cat's nails blunt and effectively prevent the destruction of furniture and other household items.  These nail caps will not leave your cat permanently defenseless like declawing does.

Questions and answers about Soft Paws Nail Caps

1. What are Soft Paws?

Soft Paws are soft vinyl nail caps that keep cats' nails blunt and harmless four to five times longer than routing nail trimming.   the durable caps are held in place by an adhesive and are available in sizes to fit kittens and adult cats.

2. How long do they stay on?

The nail caps usually last from four to six weeks, depending on the rate of nail growth and the activity level of your cat.

3. How are Soft Paws Nail Caps applied?

Soft Paws are easy to apply.  First the nails are trimmed.  Then the correct size cap is selected and a small amount of adhesive is applied into the Soft Paws Nail Cap.  The nail caps are then placed on the nails.

4. Will my cat feel any pain?

No! Your cat will not feel any discomfort with the application of Soft Paws Nail Caps.  The adhesive used to apply Soft Paws is a specially formulated medical grade cyanoacrylate glue which is used in human and veterinary medicine.  This adhesive sets quickly without heat, which is very important to your cat's safety and comfort.

5. How will my cat react to Soft Paws?

Your cat will require a short adjustment period to get used to wearing nail caps.  Generally a cat will shake or lick its feet and may even try to chew or pull of a cap or two.  These behaviours are normal and temporary.

If your cat should pull a cap off during the fist week, simply reapply the missing cap.  Soon your cat will become accustomed to wearing Soft Paws and will be unaware of the nail caps.

6. What if my cat should eat a nail cap?

The vinyl material used to make Soft Paws is "inert" and therefore is not absorbed if swallowed.   Soft Paws adhesive when set and dried is safe, non-poisonous inert material.
